About the ministry
Avanti Prison Ministries is a non-denominational ministry dedicated to taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ into jails, prisons, and juvenile centres across the world. We accomplish this task through the following routes:
- Special concerts, events and performances
- One-to-one visitations
- Prison correspondence
- Bible studies
- Inspirational speakers
- Resources
We co-operate closely with chaplains, prison officers and social workers with the view to understand and adhere to the constraints within which prison professionals work, and the unique nature of the various prison services around the world. Our organisation currently visits prisons across 80 countries.
The founding Director of our ministry, Mr. Tony Anthony (http://www.avantiministries.com/evangelist_tonyanthony.php) who was powerfully transformed in a Cypriot prison in the early 90's from a life of crime and violence when God reached out to him through the visits of a Christian Missionary from Northern Ireland called Michael Wright. It was through these dedicated visits, that Michael was able to share the Good News of Salvation with Tony. The Christian truth of Christ's love and forgiveness enabled Tony to make a decision for Christ and turn away from his evil ways. Today, Tony is able to share what changed his life all of those years ago with others in prisons around the world, assisting others in their transition of becoming a productive member of society.
Our Assistant Prison Co-ordinator is Mr. John Lawson (http://www.avantiministries.com/evangelist_johnlawson_biography.php) was also dramatically transformed in a Scottish prison in 2005, through the visits of a prison visitor in a Christian Fellowship event. His amazing encounter of God came through seeing other hardened criminals singing Gospel songs, and as the message of the Gospel became more clear to him, he began to reform from his old ways and today works as a missionary reaching out to other prisoners.
